Essay Idea #1
While my friends and I were strolling in the park, we found a wallet on a bench. Seeing that no one was around the area, we picked up the wallet and went through its contents. There was a waft of $50 notes, a few credit cards as well as a personal ID card. It was obvious to us the wallet's owner must be quite anxious to get his wallet back. We decided to hand the wallet over to the police as they would be able to trace who the wallet's owner is.
While filling in the Lost and Found report, we overheard a telling conversation between the constable and a police inspector. Apparently, while searching through their police files, the police had found that the details of the wallet's owner matched a suspect who had committed a crime at around the same location just the night before. The inspector thanked us for our honesty in handing in the wallet and advised us to be watchful when strolling at the park in future as the place where we had found the wallet was also near the scene of a crime. Nodding obediently, we made our way home thereafter.
A few days later, I saw on television that a man had been arrested in relation to an assault case at nearly the same location where we found the wallet! We were definitely proud of ourselves for having provided the clues to the police that helped solve the case. But one thing we'll never know, is how that wallet ended up on the bench in the park that fateful day.
Essay Idea #2
"Wait a minute, Jack! I think I found something," exclaimed Jill. Jill was lagging behind me while jogging at the park when I was stopped abruptly by Jill's loud voice. I backtracked to where Jill was and saw her rummaging through a wallet that was obviously not hers. Then I saw her take out what looked like a clinic appointment card.
"The card says this person has an appointment at Sengkang Hospital tomorrow. His name is Pay Wan Ting. We need to get in touch with the hospital so that we can return this wallet to Mr Pay." I agreed with Jill's decision and ended our morning exercise early that day. After breakfast, both of us boarded a direct bus to Sengkang hospital. Little did we know, we were about to discover something strange that day.
At the Administration Office, we enquired about Mr Pay and explained that we had found his wallet at the park bench. The lady at the counter checked the computer database and suddenly her face turned pale. She stuttered as she spoke, "Mr Pay Wan Ting passed away in our hospital last night. Perhaps I can hand the wallet over to his relatives for you." We were just as shocked when we heard the news about Mr Pay. Not wanting to know more about what had happened to Mr Pay, we hurriedly surrendered the wallet to the lady at the counter and left the hospital.
"Jack, I never..., " Jill said in a hoarse voice.
"Not a word, Jill." I said.
